Choosing between them
GeoPress or UltraPress
GeoPress holds more per press (710 ml) with a longer rated cartridge life. UltraPress is smaller and lighter (500 ml, 354 g in standard form). Pick by how much water you need per fill and how much weight you want to carry.
Standard or Ti
The Ti versions add a titanium outer cup, which the manufacturer allows for cooking under the official manual. They are heavier than the standard bottles and keep the same rated press time and cartridge life, so treat Ti as an outer-cup versatility choice, not a performance upgrade. They still include plastic and silicone parts and are not plastic-free.
Heat safety
If you use a Ti outer cup over heat, follow the official manual for your model. Never heat the assembled bottle or the cartridge.
Cartridge replacement
GRAYL advises replacing the cartridge when a press takes around 25 seconds, or 3 years after first use. GeoPress and UltraPress cartridges are different; follow the manual for your exact model.
Limitations
Freshwater only
Not for salty or brackish water.
Some sources are out of scope
GRAYL says the bottles are not designed for water affected by industrial disasters, high lead or mercury, or toxic algae. The manufacturer advises choosing another source.
Ratings are manufacturer figures
Cartridge life and press time are advertised numbers. Actual results depend on source water and conditions; colder water can slow the press.
Not a guarantee for unknown water
Manufacturer claims do not guarantee the safety of any particular source. Follow local water advisories.
Lab-tested is not the same as certified
Statements that a product was tested to a standard should not be read as NSF or other certification. We make no certification claim here.
