Our Review
A TDS meter is the fastest way to see whether a filter or RO membrane is still doing its job. The HM Digital TDS-EZ reads total dissolved solids in parts per million in a couple of seconds — dip it in your tap water, then your filtered water, and watch the number drop.
It won't tell you which contaminants are present (for that you need a lab test), but tracking the trend over time is the cheapest early warning that your media needs replacing.
Pros
- Dirt-cheap way to track filter health
- Instant reading
- Pocket-sized
Cons
- Measures total dissolved solids only, not specific contaminants
- Not a lab test
The HU Recommendation
Buy one with any RO or filter system. When the filtered-water TDS starts climbing toward the tap reading, it's time for new media. Pair big decisions with a proper lab test.
