The Big Berkey is the system most preppers and off-grid households measure others against. Gravity pulls water through dense Black Berkey elements that reduce pathogens, lead, chlorine, and VOCs without electricity.
Element life is exceptional — a pair handles roughly 6,000 gallons — and the stainless build lasts for years. It needs counter space and manual refills, but as resilient, no-infrastructure filtration it's a benchmark.
